a forest of signs, goth collage, and aphorisms is a group exhibition by the University of Chicago 2021 MFA cohort, featuring works by Anton Auth, Mercedes Cardenas, Alana Ferguson, Sara Grose, Vincent Haynes, Max Li, Nico Pliskin and Danielle Wright. In this group exhibition, each artist presents new work which acknowledges their relationship to this fact: Shit happens. Through objects which disturb, provoke, and destabilize, they grapple alone together with questions of value, power, and their relationships to commodities and consumer culture from inside of a crumbling capitalist empire. They play with absurdity and abstraction, with trash and treasure. They make work because they delight in it and they'd like to share it with you.
