There are at least a hundred paintings embedded within each canvas. Experiencing Bryant’s work is like that familiar red-eyed dryness from crying your heart out to your favorite love song as you sip on a whisky, wishing you could have made it work. A dark and lovely tenderness hides below the surface of longing and desire that is evident in the labor of the marks and scratches. His paintings take you on a journey of reckless abandon—trying to make out the curves of the highway as you speed along towards home hoping to make it in time, just before dawn breaks. A plea for a second chance, Leave a Light On begs the viewer to see the beauty in the pain and loneliness of healing and self reflection—one we can all relate to in a time of grief and despair.
